WP User Frontend Pro version 2.1.4 Updated

We are now accepting Credit Cards via Commweb

From now on WeDevs will accept Credit Cards ( Master and Visa International credit/debit) by using Commweb. Commweb is a Online Merchant service by Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

How its going to affect You ?

Before we used to redirect Customers to 2Checkout for credit cards payment, but from now on Customers will stay on our site and pay by 1click. As customer you will be charged in AUD and in your bank statement this transaction will shows under WEDEVS name.

Bootstrap Shortcodes for WordPress

Bootstrap by Twitter is a fantastic resource with loads of ready-to-use elements. Its getting more and more popular and people are loving to use it for WordPress theme as well.

Here i am going to introduce a plugin by filipstefansson named - bootstrap-shortcodes . This plugins provides shortcodes for Bootstrap, so you can use the elements on your website, and in the content.

Requirements

This plugin won’t do anything if you don’t have website built with the Twitter Bootstrap framework. The plugin does not include the Bootstrap framework.

The plugin is tested to work with Bootstrap version 2.1.1 and WordPress 3.5.1.

Installation

To install this plugin, just download it, and drop the folder in the wp-content/plugins/. Then login to WordPress and activate the plugin.

Supported shortcodes

The plugin doesn’t support all Bootstrap elements yet, but most of them.

Yes, from very first day when this plugin come out everyone were requesting for Front-end feature. So, here you go !

It comes up as plugin which will extend main WP Project Manager’s features and give you ability to show up projects on front-end in to any page with shortcode.

If you want to allow your clients to see all projects they assigned in to then just use this short-code: [cpm]

Or, you can assign any particular project by ID: [cpm id="PROJECT_ID"]

However, this extension plugin will not be free. You will be able to buy it from our Plugin area when its available.

Tricks with wp-config to secure and boost WordPress site

As you are here and reading this article so i assume that you already installed WordPress by your self and played with it at-least some times. So, you know the wp-config.php file: this is the file where you set up your database connection info and define your site language or if you are multi-site user you define your site as multi-site here. Beside these You can do a lot more things with the wp-config.php file. In this article, I’ll show you some snippets using wp-config.php, to secure and boost your WordPress website.

Prevent WordPress Site from asking FTP credentials

Open your wp-config.php file with your favorite Code editor then right after “/* That’s all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */ ” line paste this code -

define('FS_METHOD', 'direct');

Please note that the code snippet provided above might not work on all hosting providers, and might even cause security issues if your host is badly configured, so avoid using it if you’re not sure about your hosting.

Tell WordPress to remember your FTP credentials

If the above method do not work on your server, or if you don’t want to implement it for some reason, here is another useful snippet. This one simple tells WordPress to remember your FTP credentials so you won’t be asked again when an upgrade is available.

define('FTP_HOST', 'ftp.yoursite.com');
define('FTP_USER', 'Your_FTP_Username');
define('FTP_PASS', 'Your_FTP_password');
define('FTP_SSL', true); // If you can use a SSL connection set this to true

Disallow direct file edition

WordPress allows the site administrator to directly edit themes and plugins files through a built-in editor. This is very useful, but if you’re building a site for a client and who is newbie it is not a good idea to allow him to use this feature. Here’s a simple way to disallow direct file edition.

define('DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT', TRUE);

Automatically empty trash

If you want to define how often the trash should be automatically emptied, here’s the right way to do it:

define('EMPTY_TRASH_DAYS', 1);

Replace 1 by X to empty spam comments automatically every X days. That’s simple as that!

Increase WordPress memory limit

By default, WordPress is configured to limit the php memory it uses to 32M. If you receive a message such as “Allowed memory size of xxxxxx bytes exhausted”, you might want to increase this limit, as shown below:

define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '96M');

Automatic database repair

From Version 2.9, there is automatic database optimization support, which you can enable by adding the following define to your wp-config.php file only when the feature is required.

define('WP_ALLOW_REPAIR', true);

Block external requests

Since version 2.8, WordPress allows you to define constants to control access to specific hosts from behind a proxy server.

define('WP_HTTP_BLOCK_EXTERNAL', true);

It will block external requests from that time on. Though, some plugins need external request to work properly. If you experience problems, you can define a whitelist by pasting the code below into wp-config.php. Don’t forget to replace url by the one needed by the plugin, and note that you should allow access to api.wordpress.org in order to ensure proper functionality of core files and plugins.

define('WP_ACCESSIBLE_HOSTS', 'name.com');

Add post views feature without using a plugin

I was trying to add view Counts for Posts in to one client’s blog site. I didn’t want to use any plugin . So, i was looking for alternative way and finally comes up with this solution. Got this solution from Kevin Chart post.

The first thing to do is to create the functions. Paste the code below into your functions.php file.

function getPostViews($postID){
    $count_key = 'post_views_count';
    $count = get_post_meta($postID, $count_key, true);
    if($count==''){
        delete_post_meta($postID, $count_key);
        add_post_meta($postID, $count_key, '0');
        return "0 View";
    }

Backup Your WordPress site with Dropbox

BACKUP !

A most Important word in Web Industry. If you value the hours of work you have put into your website, it’s most certainly worth 10 minutes to get your backups sorted out. Otherwise, one-day you may have a nightmare !

In this post i am going to teach you how to setup a schedule backup for your WordPress Site in the easiest way by using Drop-Box.

Lets Go !

1. Get a free dropbox account and make sure you are signed in. (here i used my refer link)

2. Go to Plugins >> Add New and install the WordPress Backup to Dropbox plugin

3. Activate the plugin and it will create a new menu item. Go to WPB2D >>Backup Settings.

You will see this dialogue:

4. Click the Authorize button and another browser window will open asking if you want to allow Dropbox to authorize the plugin.

5. Click Allow and return to the previous window on your WP site.

6. Click the Continue button.

You will see a list of settings:

6. Under Settings, create a folder for your backups, call it something that relates to your site, then choose a backup schedule.

7. Under Excluded Files and Directories click the “toggle all” link and then un-tick the wp-content folder.

The wp-content folder contains all your theme files, uploads and media. Everything else can be easily re-installed.

If you have installed other plugins that have created folders outside of the/wp-content folder make sure they are un-ticked as well.

NOTE: If you have a caching plugin installed (for speed and website optimization) you do not need to backup the files it creates. They are just copies of your web pages in HTML form for fast loading times. For the pluginW3 Total Cache it will be the /w3tc folder, inside /wp-content. If you’re using WP Super Cache that will be the /cache folder inside /wp-content.

8. Click the Save Changes button.

9. Click on WPB2D >> Backup Log and click Start Backup to perform your first backup.

Make sure you leave that window open until it completes.

10. Login to your Dropbox account and download the folder you created for your backups.

It will be inside the folder wpb2d. Highlight the folder and click the Download button.

From now on the plugin will automatically backup on the schedule you chose.

Add Google language translation to your WordPress Site

To make a website in to different languages become trend now. Specially for popular Blogs / Site . There are many popular WordPress plugins out there to translate your WordPress site in to other language(s) . Some popular plugins are -

Anyway… If you want a nice simple way to allow anyone to read your blog, albeit with some strange translation, Google is the way to go. Today i will show you the easy way to add Google language translation to WordPress, in the most logical spot: sidebar position.

1. Login to your Google account (don’t have one? Get one free here).

2. Visit Google’s language management page. (new window)

3. Click the Add to your website now button.

4. On the next page you’ll need to copy and paste in your website address and choose the base language of your site.

5. Next you will need to customize the widget to your liking. If you’re going to be putting it in the sidebar I would select the vertical design. Also if you want to be able to track the widget in your Google Analytics reports you can paste in your Analytics Web Property ID which will look something like UA-38004350-0.

6. Click the Get Code button and copy and paste the 2 code snippets Google will give you om the next page.

7. Login to your WordPress site and go to Appearance >> Editor.

On the right hand channel you want to click on the Header file. This will allow you to edit the header.php file on your active theme.

Just look for : word

8. Paste the meta tag snippet that Google gave us just above this little tag. You can use the search function on your browser of you have trouble finding it. (Mac – Command + F Windows – Control + F)

9. Click Update File.

10. Navigate to Appearance >> Widgets and drag a new text widget to your sidebar where you would like the translation widget to appear.

11. Paste in the second bit of code Google gave us into the open widget text space and press Save.

Refresh your site (hold SHIFT and press the reload button) and you should now see a new translation drop down on your WordPress website in your desire Widget Location.
