Translation is an important part of WordPress. It lets you build your website targeting a local audience by creating your site in their local language. WordPress has supported localization since a long time. But starting WordPress 4.0, the language option will be brought to the forefront of WordPress installation.

As you can see in our WordPress 4.0 preview post, users will be prompted to select the language they want to install WordPress in. That's why now it's more important than ever to complete localization.

On 23rd August 2014, weDevs held a Contributor Day event at its office in Dhaka. The aim was to speed up the WordPress translation process so that all remaining strings are translated before the currently scheduled release date of WordPress 4.0, which is August 27.

Tareq Hasan, Founder of weDevs and validator of WordPress Bengali project, wrote on his blog that there were about 1800 strings to be translated in WordPress admin area. After the event, only about 150 strings remain.

The event also attracted a lot of new contributors who just signed up to translate WordPress. In fact, about 50% of the people who joined the weDevs Contributor Day were new contributors. You can easily see how big of a success this initiative was.

The Contributor Day was organized under the banner of local WordPress developer and enthusiasts' group, WordPressian. The group regularly organizes meet-ups and events related to WordPress. Its upcoming WordPressians' 8th Meetup is scheduled for August 30, 2014.
