|PixeledMe||Hello, I would like to give users the ability to post external links as a post type. The content submission form would look something like this: URL Title Description Image Tags Submit The title / image would become a link, so that when clicked a new tab / window would open up and you would be taken to the external site. The theme that I am using is called "Pinboard" which you can see here http://themify.me/themes/pinboard and the login / registration forms will be generated by a plugin called User Profiles which you can see here http://codecanyon.net/item/user-profiles-plugin-for-wordpress/4109874 Pinboard has an option for sharing external links through the backend and also opens the link in a new tab through a custom post type form. I just need to know if this plugin will allow me to create the form listed above, and function exactly how I have explained. Also please let me know if this plugin would be compatible with the User Profiles plugin listed above. Also, user profiles will be generated using the User Profiles plugin as well. So this plugin would just be used to generate the content submission form(s). I also have been considering the I Love It WordPress theme listed below, as an alternative to the Pinboard theme, since it already has built in profiles, registration, login, and various sharing options. The only downside to that theme is that it does not offer External Link submission, so what I'd like to ask is, will this plugin work with that theme as a replacement to the included submission form? I LOVE IT Theme - http://themeforest.net/item/i-love-it-content-sharing-wordpress-theme/698475?WT.ac=search_thumb&WT.seg_1=search_thumb&WT.z_author=virusnac Thanks for the help, I appreciate it :)|

I really can’t say how the pinboard theme works. Does it uses any custom field to determine if the link will be used in post title and opened in a new tab?
If you want to use user profiles plugin, thats fine. I don’t see any reason it shouldn’t work together 🙂

Thank you for the reply, Pinboard has a custom post field for link post types, but I am more interested in whether or not this plugin will allow users to post external links just like how it would be done on sites like Tumblr, where a user can choose between image, video, text, quote, audio, and external link postings.
Like how I explained it where the post title and image would actually become a link to the website url included by the user. The form would be url, title, description, tags, and then the submit button.

Alright, so I have been continuing my research, and came across a plugin called “Page Links To” which you can see here http://wordpress.org/plugins/page-links-to/
What that plugin does is adds a new form option that allows users to add an external url and then select the option to have it open in a new tab/window when the title or image is clicked. I would like to have that same functionality, only instead of giving users access to the backend, I need it to be available through a front end submission form. Can this be done with User Front End Pro? And if so, do I need to create a custom post type etc.
Thanks for the help, please respond as soon as possible.

Yes, you can do it.

Thank you for the explanation. I reviewed the demo form creation, and am a little confused on how to add the options that you stated above. Can you tell me which options I would select to build the form… I clicked on the URL option but just want to make sure I am building the form properly. like I said I want the link submission form to be in this order:
Thanks for the help.

You need to add a custom field (URL or text) to the form, give the label as “URL” and put the meta key as “_links_to”. Obviously that plugin needs to be installed to point the post link to your URL custom field.

Alright, so I would need to install the plugin Page Links To, and then once the form is setup and the shortcode is published on a page / post, users who submit a link, the title / image will be converted into the external link they chose, correct? And just to be clear, this won’t redirect the post if a user clicks on the link in a search engine right…
I just want to make sure I understand everything before buying the plugin.

Yes, you are right.
I am not sure what you meant by this.

Like if an article is submitted to my site as an external link, if that article appears in search results through Google, Yahoo, etc. would it redirect to the external link or would it open up on my site, and then when the user clicks the title or image it would open the new window / tab.

As your post will be linked to an external link, so search engine will also get this link. So I suppose what you are thinking, should happen.

This plugin will be used as a replacement to the built in submission form, but I will be keeping the built in user profiles, login, and registration forms.
What do you think? And how much would it cost… 🙂

I would love to help you, but I’ve got so many tasks already that I don’t have time to assist you.

No problem 🙂 Do you know of a plugin that would block url redirects in search engines?

What you are asking for is, you’ve a link and you expect the search engine will not this treat as a link. Is it possible? NO.
