WordCamp Sylhet 2024: An Event to Remember!!!

WordCamp Sylhet 2024 was a success. We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the event.

This time Contributor Day was held one day before the main event. Many from the WordPress community joined to contribute to WordPress. The teams were divided including Core, Design, Polyglots, Documentation, and more, and 18 table leads led the teams.

The main event started at 8 am the next day May 11. We had to first register and get our WordCamp Swags. Then followed the inauguration speech from the organizing committee.

Then followed the sessions. Atikur Rahman Tonmoy took an insightful session on “Crafting a Winning Launch Strategy for Your WordPress Product” while Saif Hasan took a session on “Product Management v. Project Management — Synergies, Conflicts, and Coexistence”.

Subhasis Chatterjee took an interesting session on “The Future of Blogging: Is It Still Relevant in 2024 and Beyond?“. Developers found the sessions on “High-Performance MySQL” by Mohammad Emran Hasan and “Breaking Ground: A Fresh Perspective on WordPress with React” by Sumit Saha fascinating and insightful.

Sabirah Islam took part in an interesting panel discussion titled “Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity & Belonging in Bangladesh while contributing to WordPress“.

Nazir Hossain took a session on “How to Choose a Tech Career & Finding top talent in a candidate”. There was an interesting Q & A session as well at the end.

Also, there were many interesting sessions in the lineup.

WordPressians Were Lining Up In front of the weDevs Stall

And just like all other WordCamps, people were gathering around every stall. They inquired about the products, made connections, and played games to win some amazing prizes and swags.

People were most interested in our weDevs stall. We had some amazing swags, t-shirts, and exciting prizes. We also conducted an interesting game. People had to throw a coin into a cup that was placed in the water tank. 

The audience liked the challenge and even after the game was over, some attendees came over just to try their luck.

WordCamp Sylhet has created hype in our local community. Within just 3 minutes, the first round of all the tickets were sold out. The second-round tickets were also sold out in a short amount of time.

Where is the Venue of WordCamp Sylhet 2024?

This event will take place at the prestigious Central Auditorium of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet. It is the 8th oldest university in Bangladesh, covering 320 acres of green land and tea gardens.

WordCamp Sylhet is a 2-day long event. Let's break it down:

• Contributor Day: 10th May 2024 (Starting at 9:00 am +06)
• Conference Day: 11th May 2024 (Starting at 7:00 am +06)

Day 1: Contributor Day

Day 1 will be contributor day. This is a big chance to contribute to WordPress, the best community-based open-source platform, and get your name on the prestigious contributor's list.

There are numerous ways to contribute to the WordPress community. Here are the top 5 fields you can contribute to:

• Development: You can contribute to core code, plugins, and themes.

• Translation: You can help translate WordPress core software, plugins, and themes.
• Support: You can help others with their WordPress-related problems by answering questions in forums, and participating in online chat rooms.
• Documentation: Contributing to the documentation of WordPress allows users to learn how to use it more effectively.

After every WordPress core release, WordPress releases the names of the contributors. It helps the contributors get recognition and WordPress badges. However, many of us don't know how to contribute or what the procedures are. So Contributor's Day is a big chance for them to go.

Day 2: Sessions, Swags

Registration will start at 7 am. We suggest you reach the venue early; otherwise, you can get stuck in a long queue.

This day will feature many interesting sessions, workshops, and special panel discussions. You will hear from various industry leaders as they cover some interesting topics while sharing their experiences. There will be 15 sessions altogether. You can see the whole schedule here.

This time Atikur Rahman Tonmoy, Nazir Hossain, Saif Hassan, and Sabirah Islam will be speaking at the event. Saif Hasan, Atikur Rahman Tonmoy, and Nazir Hossain will join the event as keynote speakers, whereas Sabirah Islam will be part of an elite list of panel members.

Looking Back at the First WordCamp Ever in Sylhet

The first-ever WordCamp Sylhet 2023 was a huge success. WordPress community loved how excited the people were about the event and people from all over the world joined to contribute.

WordCamp Sylhet 2023 saw some exciting sessions. Our very own Atikur Rahman Tonmoy, Saif Hasan, and Sabirah Islam took sessions on some interesting topics.

Also, some of the industry leaders also took sessions. There were some interesting panel discussions on topics like “WordPress Contribution”, “Ai in Design Industry”, and “Building WordPress Product”.

The sessions and panel discussions were quite interesting. Attendees asked questions and the speakers were very patient in giving detailed answers.

The attendees liked the challenge and even after the game was over, some attendees came over just to try their luck. 

We also had a quiz competition and there were some exciting gifts for the participants.
