I have replaced the the files several times and deactivated, deleted several times.I'm not facing such problem. Is you database still intact ? or You're trying with a older version of the database ?
Some of the clients faced problem when updating to 2.2.2 They updated the plugin, deactivated and activated the plugin. And that worked for them. You can try that too.
